"Abound in Hope (Romans 15:13)"
I had been working through a 90 hour Independent Study in gelatin printing and my wife asked me to try and include some birds in a few. She wasn't entirely sure why, but she’s had a fondness for birds as of late and thought it would be nice to see some in the new prints. I obliged and came up with this composition. I had not necessarily planned on the birds being white initially; I simply liked the way they looked against the textured blues of the background. They clearly seem to resemble doves though, and that made me think of the Holy Spirit descending like a dove on Yeshua when he was baptized. (Matthew 3:16) That, in turn, reminded me of another favorite verse that would allow these birds to fit quite nicely into my new “Promises” series. Romans 15:13 says, “Now the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, that ye may abound in hope, through the power of the Holy Ghost.”
I look now at these birds and I imagine them flying out to descend upon new believers as they place their trust in Yeshua and get that first taste of real freedom. These birds also remind me that even when life gets frantic we are promised joy and peace in believing, i.e. trusting that God is enough. So when we do allow God to be in control, especially in the times of chaos, we can abound in hope. I thank God that he continues to send inspiration and allow me to use the talents he’s given me to acknowledge him.
Each of these prints is a monotype, meaning an original, one-of-a-kind image, printed off of a gelatin plate. Obviously, all of the prints in the edition are essentially the same composition; however, each one has its own unique qualities.

These prints are each approximately 6" x 8" and are protected in an 11" x 14" white mat, which is a standard frame size. They are also available framed behind glass in a handmade poplar wood frame with a natural finish.
