The Lord Almighty (Psalm 113:3)
The Lord Almighty, 11" x 14", Mixed Media on Masonite Panel, 2011 ~SOLD~
This is the second in a subseries of "portraits" of the various lines that appear in my Joyflow painting. These images, which will each feature a single line, are intended to act as a sort of legend for the Jowflow paintings; showcasing some of the attributes that have been personified into the symbolic lines.
In this painting, and throughout the Joyflow series, the bold yellow line represents The Lord Almighty. In all of the compositions it is the first line drawn, only then are the rest of the lines are drawn in relative to the placement of the God line. The brightness of the yellow color to me has always suggested the light of His glory. The use of modeling paste is a new development and the thick textures to me alluded to His strength. He is indeed our Rock, our Fortress, our Shield.
In this particular portrait the line runs the span of a sky transistioning through morning and night, it is present simultaneously in both locations. Not only is this a picture of God's ever present nature, but a reminder of how we are to relate to Him with our praise. I was reminded of some lyrics from the O.C. Supertones while painting this:
"Every single moment, whether sleeping or awake, is Your creation
And what You made is good.
I don't always thank you for the rough days or the hard times in my life
Even though I should"
These lyrics do a terrific job of summarizing Psalm 113:3, "From the rising of the sun unto the going down of the same the Lord's name is to be praised." At all times and in all places The Lord Almighty is there with us, lavishing us with his love, and he deserves our full praise.
