Printmaking is a form of art in which images are created by applying ink to the surface of an alternative material (ex. wood, linoleum, plexiglass, etc.)  This surface is commonly referred to as a printing plate.  The printing plate is either manipulated before or after ink has been applied and then the subsequent image is essentially stamped, or printed, onto paper.  This process of art-making frequently allows for multiple images to be generated. A monotype, or monprint, is a type of printmaking that only produces a single unique image.
