"Strong Tower (Proverbs 18:10)"
These prints developed as a sort of an off-shoot from the edition of monotypes “My Father’s House” It obviously uses one of the same building stencils from that batch of prints. I was experimenting with printing single copies of the different houses and really liked the look of this single tower on a gradient colored background. I played around with this and made several more variations, many of which are not yet finished. This building has a lighthouse kind of feel to me, or a watch tower, and that got me thinking of it being a metaphor for God. How, through Yeshua, he provides light in the darkness which leads us out of our sin and into salvation. The word tower kept knocking around in my head for this building and in searching through my Bible I was reminded of how God is referred to as a strong tower. It was one of those moments that kind of gave me chills I got so excited by the connection between the image and the title. In fact, this whole edition of prints was interesting because it was not an image I was planning on creating and the verse for it was one I found afterwards instead of before like I normally do. The whole thing just sort of came together on its’ own and I felt almost like a spectator. Those are often my favorite kind of art-making experiences, where I get to be surprised by the results as well.
Proverbs 18:10, “The name of the Lord is a strong tower: the righteous runneth into it, and is safe. “
Each of these prints is a monotype, meaning an original, one-of-a-kind image, printed off of a gelatin plate. Obviously, all of the prints in the edition are essentially the same composition, however, each one has its own unique qualities. Some of them have been slightly embellished with colored pencils afterwards to sharpen and emphasize various details.
