Art Auction
Trash Mountain Project
Shortly after completing the live painting at the "2011 Spoken: A Benefit for Trash Mountain Project" (see below), I approached Brett Durbin about the possibility of coordinating an art auction to help contribute to the work of TMP. After a great deal of brainstorming and a few rescheduled dates, we decided to host a silent art auction at the 2012 Spoken event which took place on October 14th. Eight local artists joined me in creating original artworks specifically for this event and collectively $3,250 was raised to benefit Trash Mountain Project. Praise God!
All of the artwork is included in the gallery below. I want to thank all the artists again for coming along side me to use their God-given talents to help serve the Lord and advance his kingdom by helping those in such tremendous need.
While planning the auction, Brett Durbin requested me to create a painting that would retell the incredible story of God’s protection through angelic intervention when Brett and his team visited the trash dump at night in Cambodia. (You can read the full story here.) This painting was a joy to paint simply because of the remarkable nature of the story. I was given dozens of photographs to reference while painting this image, and from a technical standpoint, painting the details of the shacks and the textures of the ground was very enjoyable. At the same time, I was continually struck by the reality of the fact that these are actually people's homes. It is exactly these kind of living conditions that makes the effort of Trash Mountain Project so vitally important. I pray that God will continue to bless this ministry and multiply their work to help the families living in such deplorable circumstances.
