Trinity (Proverbs 3:5-6)
Trinity (Proverbs 3:5-6), Acrylic on canvas, 30' x 24', ~NOT FOR SALE~
This was the fourth canvas of the "Joyflow" series, and the first in which I consciously tried to set up a system of symbolism that allowed me to explore the Christian faith. Using the same abstract forms and lines from the previous paintings, I began to assign them roles.The yellow line became God, with his glory and light being represented by the intensity of the yellow. Yeshua took the part of the green line, with the color alluding to growth. There is also an abstracted hand with a hole in the wrist in the bottom left, obviously referring to the sacrifice Yeshua made for us all. The energetic red and pink line came to represent the ever present Holy Spirit. Much of the symbolism I established in this painting became the inspiration for what I did in The Communion Table Project. (You can read more about that on the bottom of the Special Projects page)
There is also an orange circle, representing the sun, being set in the sky blue background. In the top left corner, the stars are being cast into the heavens and spreading out to find their place. I really related with the verses from Proverbs 3: 5-6, "Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight." This really spoke to me in that by doing this painting I was turning over yet another aspect of my life to God, my art. I was placing my artistic trust in Him and He has repaid me tenfold with a wealth of new inspiration.
