Unity #10 (Ephesians 4:4-6)
Unity #10, Mixed Media on Masonite, 2013 ~SOLD~
This painting, which is part of my Joyflow series, was created as the Featured Artwork for the 2013 Aaron Douglas Art Fair. The artworks from this series utilize a collection of symbolic lines to represent the triune nature of God. Yellow lines are always used to suggest God the Father; green lines depict Yeshua, and magenta lines portray the Holy Spirit. While many of the artworks from the Joyflow series are filled with numerous symbolic lines, I'm also fascinated with the image of a single, bold, solitary line
In this painting I wanted to incorporate those symbolic colors to represent the Trinity into one single line. The three lines of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit are distinct and yet unified. They clearly make one cohesive line and yet they each are present and discernible. This becomes an attempt to explore the unknowable mystery of the triune God. One God, three persons. The three circles, each with their own unique personality echo this conceptual idea. This painting is an attempt to create a visually potent image that represents all of these aspects of God into one unified line.
Ephesians 4:4-6 explores this idea of unity and more into a poetic repetition of one, "There is one body, and one Spirit, even as ye are called in one hope of your calling; One Lord, one faith, one baptism, One God and Father of all, who is above all, and through all, and in you all.”
This painting was raffled as part of a fundraiser to benefit Trash Mountain Project.
