While many of the artworks from the Joyflow series are filled with numerous lines (ex. Everlasting), I'm also fascinated with the image of a bold, solitary line. I enjoy the singularity of one image carrying the weight, depth, and mystery of the triune nature of God. One God, three persons. Ephesians 4:4-6 imbues that idea and more into a poetic repetition of one, "There is one body, and one Spirit, even as ye are called in one hope of your calling; One Lord, one faith, one baptism, One God and Father of all, who is above all, and through all, and in you all.” (KJV) There is a potency to all of these aspects of faith being wrapped up into one line. Since these images are abstractions, there is no literal reference to any of these qualities, but it is my hope that there is a presence to these pieces that evokes reflection and praise for our Lord and Creator. The monotypes have been created with a variety of textural materials and custom cut stencils. Colors and details have then been enhanced with colored pencils.
